During the 1939 campaign the Polish Army destroyed or damaged more than 900 armored vehicles of the Wehrmacht. Contrary to popular opinion, the German tanks were met with effective resistance, exemplified by the Battle of Mokra, Jordanov, a suburb of Warsaw and Kampinos Forest. In addition to field artillery 75mm and Bofors 37mm anti-tank guns large role was played by anti-tank guns UR, one piece allocated to each platoon of infantry or cavalry. (more…)

Thank you for the background to this diorama. It is easy to forget the history and battles fought by other countries. In the UK we hear little or nothing about the early days of WWll especially the Polish/German battles. Almost all we know is the bravery and skill of Polish fighter pilots who made it to Britain. I often wonder about the history of other countries going right back in time. They say history is written by the victors and that is so true about Poland in those desperate early days and weeks. I would love to see more history from the perspective of the vanquished.
